Presented by: Cecilie Brandt-Olsen
Visionary architects need visionary engineers to push the limits of what is possible. BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) took the first step towards a more interdisciplinary practice by establishing BIG Engineering in the beginning of 2017. By having more knowledge available from a variety of disciplines in the early stages of a design process, it is possible to make informed decisions and thereby arrive at a more holistic design with a well-argued story. The role of computation is ever increasing as it helps to unify the different disciplines in the industry and sits at the cutting edge of technology to explore and make new ideas possible.
Through a variety of projects, this presentation will provide an overview of different workflows that help to support the ambition of being a creative engineering team who is eager to expand the possible solution space. This will include recent research topics such as analysis of form-active structures and interactive evolutionary algorithms.
